I've just bought a rug for my Arab mare but although it fits lengthwise it's far too generous round the chest so it's got to go back. My Highland has a fairly broad chest (although she's not one of the really chunky HiPos) and I know what suits her but I'm obviously a bit clueless when it comes to Arabs :o Any help gratefully received, thanks. She's 14.3hh and has a body condition score of 3, if that helps?

I've just bought a Weatherbeeta Comfitec for one of mine, I've not tried it on him yet, but he has the same rug in a middleweight that i know fits him as he wore it last winter. The MW has foxes on and the new one has bunnies (which makes all the difference to the fit I'm sure! ;)). He has the personality to carry silly patterns off, where as the grey is far too ladylike for such things. :D

Horseware rugs fit well too and I do like the Wug or half neck style on horses with narrow shoulders. I have a Shires rug in that style which is a great fit. He's a bit bigger than your girl at 15.1 approx (haven't measured him for a while and he might have grown a tad) but he takes 5ft9 in weatherbeeta and Shires and 6ft in Horseware and 3 out of 5 would descibe his condition well.

I have an Anglo Arab and horseware rugs and weatherbeeta fit really well however horseware are 6 ft 3 whereas weatherbeeta only 6ft.

I use shires weatherbeeta, derby house and recently bought some gallop rugs for my Arabs all fit really well, I find amigos move on mine but neither of them is particularly finely built, you may find going a bit smaller can help I often need a 5"9 on my more compact horse with some brands to get the right fit in front.

just to add one of mine is 15h the other is 15.3 but they can often wear each others rugs depending on the brand.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone :) Plenty to consider there.

Faracat, I love that rug and I think it would really suit my horse so I am very tempted to try it :D

Pinkvboots, I did think I'd try a size down next time to see if it improves the fit :)

Hi everyone, my 80% arab arrives today, along with her very well-worn rug.

I’d like to get her a new lightweight turnout rug and thought I’d find out what the verdict was here?

My pony isn't Arab but she is very narrow in front, and Maxima Equestrian turnouts are the best fit on her as they have fully adjustable front fastenings (buckles one end, trigger clips the other and a choice of rings to clip to). This means you can tighten up the front to get a snug fit. All their turnouts are 1200 denier and they are very reasonably priced - but you do have to like bright colours and patterns!

My arab also has a weatherbeeta comfitec and it fits really well, she also has a shires but although it fits in length and depth its very big around the shoulders
