My 13yr old daughter has lost interest in her 13hh ride & drive gelding, and he's absolutely wasted with us as he loves his work.
I've managed to acquire 4 horses but never sold any lol
I'll keep him over Christmas and hopefully start getting him back into work slowly..
What's the best month to start advertising & finding him a nice home in your experience?
Thanks :)

If it was me I'd sell him about february/march time because if he'd be a good kids pony, the summer is when all the PC type stuff and events are on :) The more stuff you can get him out and about doing the better :)

i agree, but I did buy 2 of mine mid winter! After christmas maybe on free sites and maybe paid ads in the spring? price is more key. I wouldnt pay more than £1k for 12-13h pony. went to see a few at this price or just less. sellers often said they had had no interest when asking for more and as soon as went to this price they had buyers lined up. good luck, I just told my daughter how lucky she is and she'd better do her jobs and ride more or hers will go!:o:D

Thanks all :)

She's loves the riding bit but the day to day stuff she's not keen, I don't mind doing it because I love it, but why should I keep a pony for her to just hack out every month, she can go to a riding school for that!
I'll be asking about £950 ono with tack, he's been to pc/shows etc and you can leave him in the field for 3 months then ride him he's good as gold. I'll miss the little ****** but I can't justify another field ornament lol
Hope we can keep in touch with his new buddy :(

I think it very much depends on the age of the pony, the possible purchase / target audience and the level of fitness and experience the pony has.... March April isa good time for fully fit competition/show mode horses, so people can essentially walk right into the ring with them, but if its unfit, lacking in experience etc... Earlier in the year is better. It all depends on what you think your target audience is

You're right yes, so I'll start getting him back into work asap, he's 10, a sort of 'been there & done that' little guy, he'd be more of a second pony as he's forward going (not daft) and he's a nice little driving pony.
My 'target audience' would probably be pony club/driving...I'll advertise as a second pony then..

Thanks for your help :)
