Best Novice WH classes

I would be quite keen to enter this class, I think the show is an affiliated one (if this makes any difference)

Murphy has an excellent jump but his conformation isnt perfect and Im lead to believe WH is a BIT less strict on this? (is this right?)

Anyway - main question is:

Tack?
Murphy is ridden in a plain bridle, plain loose ring snaffle. Would it be advisable to use a pelham or is this not neccessary for a novice? Also do judges prefer to see a horse in minimal tack or does it not make a difference?

Turnout?
His feathers are trimmed, his mane will be plaited, his tail tidies but loose. Quarter makers - make a difference or not?

Me?
Going to have to get a tweed, think greeen looks odd with canary jods, so going to stick to beige I think. long boots.
What colour tie and shirt? Spurs?

Finally:
In the showing part: What should I do?

Tack is fine - keep in a snaffle if that is what he is happiest in. Novices are allowed to go in snaffles without any penalty.
Green tweed will be fine. Beige will look washed out.
Dark green tweed, cream shirt, tie perhaps red or something that is the same colour as the colours in the tweed.
Spurs are correct, but if you are not used to jumping in them, then leave them off.

You can wear boots, martingales etc for workers. However, the boots MUST be removed before going back in for the section section. No other part of your tack may be changed though.

So - usually order of play:

Walk the course.
Get on and jump the course.
Judge may ask you to gallop on after you have completed the course.

Remove horse's boots and let down stirrups to normal length.
Judge invites people back into the ring (clear rounds, and sometimes some of the hroses which have had a knockdown or refusal).
All do walk, trot, canter, gallop as a class.
Pulled into line and either do short individual show or the judge rides.
You may be asked to strip in which case your groom should come into the ring, help you remove the saddle. You will then stand in front of the judge, walk away when she askes you to, and trot back towards her, and past her.
Put tack back on. Walk around, and then called into final line up.

If you do an individual show, something like walk away from the judge, trot part of a figure of 8, go into canter at the end of the figure of eight, change the rein again, then extend up the long side in canter/gallop. Finish up by trotting horizontally to the judge and halting, not trotting straight towards her which is nowhere near as attractive!

Think that covers most of it!

Don't forget you will need to have brown gloves. If you can do sharks teeth quarter marks then fine, but if you only have a plastic sheet, then do without.
 
No - you should be fine! Chances are they won't ask you to strip anyway. And if they do, I am sure that someone will have a spare person you can borrow, or the steward can hold your horse whilst you whip the saddle off.

No - please don't be put off - I thought putting it all down would be better than missing out chunks! It is a really nice class to do so do have a go at it.
 
Ahh, I found it thanks. Have to agree that it sounds a bit stressful but I will go along anyway and watch and see how everyone else gets on then enter at the next show.

I see there is also a Ladies Ridden Hunter class too - how is this different? Would my 16hh ID x TB be suitable or is it a class for lightweight type hunters? I hunt him and I am a layyydee!
 
Jen, Novice working hunter at affiliated level is 3'3"!! Do you think hes ready for that???

By the way the lorry is dead... looking for a new one!

How funny? Do you get many men riding hunters in your riding club shows? I would imagine it would be the same horse and rider combination in the open hunter class as in the ladies class in that case!
 
perhaps as its a local ladies hunter class something suitable to carry a sidesaddle? not many people at local level have a sidesaddle so perhaps they are angleing for more entries
 
God i didnt know they were that high, god almighty!! He might be ready, I on the other hand am most certainly not! Can we go in the pony classes one wonders?!
Thinks I'll stick to Best Hunter then muah ahhahaha keep my feet on the floor!

going to disagree with yopu quatermarks are standard, they are more chunky the the lighter horses but they are correct
 
You often see sharks teeth but the little squares are inccorrect.
Just noticed that you said the show was affiliated. In that case i think you need to be registered with the SHB to do the class although you could apply for a day ticket. You would need to contact the SHB to find out what to do as I have never had a day ticket! The number to contact them is 01732 866277.
Fences are 2'9" - 3'3" for novice workers.
