I know a lot of people put oil in their horses food for their coat ,hooves and weight gain etc. Just wondering what oil is the best to use (I’ve heard lineseed and rapeseed oil is good) which would be better or is there any others? Also if I was to feed oil how much would I give a day and how would I introduce it.

I use micronised linseed, not oil, some will not eat an oily feed especially if trying to get weight on so having to use a fair bit, I have several to feed so this is the easy option, they all love it, introduce gradually as you would any new feed, I give most about half a mug each day, the one needing more condition gets 2-3 mugs a day.

Yes just looking to know how much to feed

As much as the horse will eat, there a limit to what you can put in depending on how much dry stuff you are feeding and some horses wont eat much of it. Up to 500ml a day, cut it or the other feed down if they are getting fat. As with all feeds, start low and build up.

Anyone else feeding large quantities of oil and finding the supermarkets cleaned out, Booker in Macclesfield have masses in 20 litre drums. If you don't have a Booker card I can buy it for you and hand it over in the car park.

I think the omega 3 6 ratio isnt good in sunflower oil, better in rapeseed. On the same shelf in Tesco, labelled vegetable oil.

Other 'vegetable' oils, eg Sainsbury last time I looked, are sunflower.
