Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for good reference books that cover as much as possible - stable management, psychology, first aid advice, even schooling tips/exercises?
When I first got my horse I was recommended ''The manual of horsemanship'' by the pony club.
Don't be put off thinking its for kids or young people its really well written and covers literally everything! Its really good for getting the basics and contains good solid information and I would recommend it to every person getting their first horse (or returning to riding etc).
Heres the link to it on amazon : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manual-Horsemanship-Official-Pony-Club/dp/0954886313 although any good tack shop should sell it as they are quite popular!
Hope this helps somewhat
Anja Beran's classical schooling with the horse in mind.
I got it for Xmas, and I love it; it takes you through the basic anatomy of the horse, how it all works, how good routine, management/care etc is brilliant for the horse, exercises to improve you as a rider and working the horse- from in-hand work, to the green horse, to more advance work.
Thoroughly recommend it, and it's beautifully illustrated
