Just wondering who you would choose to send your young event horse to if you wanted it to be produced and what are the factors that made you pick that person? Also would your choice be different if it was a stallion that you had? Your views would be very much appreciated, thanks.

I would look for a rider that produces horses in a relaxed and clear way.I would also choose someone who has the time to put into the horse as s o many just use staff to produce them.It would have to be quite local so I could visit at least twice a week

I know who id choose..... the male event rider at my work. He loves producing and working with the youngsters. Have watched him break in, back etc... 2 this yr and really agreed with and liked the way he goes about it. Really listens to the horse and knows exactly when to push or back off and take a step back.

Depends where are you based? I presume you want someone local to you.
We've found that often the very top riders just don't have the time to do many YEH qualifiers, if at all. It's also nice to have a rider who has the time to take them to little dressage and jumping shows which again the top riders with loads of horses cannot do.

The person who has my 4yo at the moment, she has done THE most fabulous job on her and i'm just so pleased we made that decision. Also had and qualified for BYEH/PAVO stallions too and done lovely jobs with them as well. PM me if you want details, she's in Leics and v good.

agree about Terry Boon, and Diana Burgess. other peeople whose young horses i always look forward to seeing are Michael Jackson (good with stallions) he is near cheltenham ish, Tor brewer same sort of area, Ruth edge all hers are beautifully produced and win at pure dressage also, she is up north, kitty boggis the same and is doing really well with young stallion at the moment, she is near oxford. down south sam jennings, cressie clague reading and sacha pemble. South west, vicky brake and Ants Mckeowen will both make sure horse knows its job as will former head lad at team fredericks Mark Ford all the last three salisbury andover way. (actually now think of it think Tor brewer down there too). The midlands not really my area though i can probaly advise you about some of the riders. Also up north Brook staples and/or Jeanette brakewell.
Ther are some riders whose record appears better than it actually is with regard to young horses. so my advice would be to ask some one who has actualy been at the rider concerned yard either as a livery or an employee as some people ruin plenty but you wouldnt ever know unless you had been there in person. Dont let obvious results (big wins etc) flash lorries and even flasher stables influence you. The smaller places are more likely to give your horse the individual attention it needs. Also some of the bigger names are not unaware that if your horse doesnt make someone else will soon be sending them another youngster so its not so much of a big deal to them.
there are certain people that i would not let produce a beach donkey if it was still entire and some that i wouldnt even send a pit pony to. PM if you have a specific question in mind x

PS forgot emily chandler leicestershire ish very good with youmgsters. you might look at the last few years BYEH 5 year old classes and see who consistently gets horses there. the five year olds are likely to be pre novicing at least so you can really check a riders record. Same for the PAVO classes. they have to have done well at actual events to qualify so quite useful for seeing who can gwet them out there doing it.
