Best place to find staff

Im just wondering the best place to try and find staff.
In the past i have used The Job Centre and although we have been inundated with applicants most have turned up for the interview and wasted a huge amount of our time ,as they havnt really been wanting a job just ticking a box so that they can sign on again.
I cant really be bothered with this and find the agencies a bit on the pricey side so after ideas really.
Where would people usually look

Depends on the job, I'm in the academic sector and I tend to look at jobs.ac.uk, local councils websites, or the University's own websites. I hate the job centre website with a passion, its awful!

is it a horsey job ? if so could put on yardandgroom or even gumtree as it is local.

Whenever I have been looking for a yard job I really only use yard and groom.

put ad in farriers van and ask if he knows anyone

£84 which isnt too bad compared to most of the recruitment agencies who i find a bit steep
