I will shortly begin the quest of looking for a new horse to event with. Not looking for the next Olympic star, but something that's comfortable doing BE Novice.

Any suggestions as to where to try? Is it best to go to someone who produces event horses, or is it better to keep scouring the classifieds?

If this was me i would got to either good dealer or breeder cos if you want polished article you'll need deep pockets

where to look - all the usual websites/H&H etc they don't necessarily have to have been competing at that level to be capable, PC opens are novice level etc

They're expensive though even potential.

A 5yo thats been going round PN's well they're all advertised at £10k ish! Whether they get it i don't know?

You have to be careful if htey come from a producer, yes you often get a more ready made model and often they are genuinely selling because they're not good enough to go far enough for them. However they wil have been ridden by a strong rider who can see good strides all the time, so they're not always taht forgiving when mere mortals get on!!

There is a few on the horseselect website in the Scottish Borders that may be worth a look. Also, if you go along to some BE competitions there are usually a few competing that are for sale. Good place to ask around anyway. Good luck!

I'll keep an eye out at events. I'm not in any hurry as baby horse has just started BE Intro and other boy is PN.

. It's up to his owner really, I'm not sure she has enough money to pay me to do it and I'm not doing it for free.... Interestingly someone rang me today asking if I'd had any interest in him as they are having a lot of difficulty selling a 5 yo, although theirs at least qualified for PAVO last year. L is in tomorrow's H&H.

Yes, Odin looks lovely, but a bit too far away! I love the fact you prove event horses don't have to be gigantic to succeed! Sometimes I feel such a twit looking at horses 15.2-16hh with the aim of eventing beyond PN.
