My mare is getting fatter by the day, my father has suggested putting her in a harness and getting her to chain harrow her own fields! ok, so maybe not this year, but a friend of ours has said he can 'get her going' but I need a harness first.
She is 16'2" heavyweight....

What do you think is a fair price?? Ive seen a few for about £300... as always the one I want is way too much. Would she be better with a collar? Will you please tell me to stop daydreaming and go pack for my weekend away?;)

A full collar needs careful fitting like a saddle so unless you know what you are doing then a breast collar is best. You need to decide whether you would like a leather set of harness or a synthetic one. Then there is the quality which ranges from the cheap and nasty to the really posh. I would stick to a well known make if you are new to harness. Carriage link is a good start.

Not a dream at all ! Get her long lining in a normal roller and bridle with 2 lunge lines to start, then het her dragging something and she will be there in no time !!

Ive spent no more than £100 as starter harnesses and always got half decent stuff (tedex and plas) but ive started building up my zilco harness, a part at a time as and when i have any cash spare :)

A corrlar allows the horse to pull more but either will be fine for harrowing

Thankyou for your advice... and your enthusiasm toffee monster!... I just feel as if she is wasted and wants to be out doing things, and tbh half an hour hacks five times a day isnt keeping the weight off. She will be five in May, voice activated and so laid back she's horizontal....
My husband is strangely excited about the idea of Daisy in a cart, cant work out whether this is because he wants to join in (doesnt ride) or has his sights set on earning some cash...

Hello, I am also looking for some working harness for my cob, I have a driving harness but I have been trying to buy a collar. I purchased one from Ebay which was the wrong size, I then imported a new one made by the Amish also the wrong size and I also purchased a "job lot barn find" pile of working harness which was all broken. Feeling this could be an impossible task. My cob has a very thick neck. Built like a bull and so I am finding it hard to get a collar wide enough. Will probably need a collar at least 10" or 11" wide and 23"/24" I thought I'd say hello as we are also based in Northampton. Does anyone have such a collar for sale
