Best place to sell a WOW saddle?

Are you aware of the term stereotypic behaviour in relation to horses?

Where is the best place to sell a WOW saddle?

I have never sold anything on e-bay so I don't have a clue. My local saddlers would take it and charge a percentage of the sale price, but not sure if there would be any interest as he can't fit it. Would an online saddler like saddles-direct be any good (and has anyone successfully used them?) or would maybe my local WOW fitter be any good to ask - though I guess they would rather get commission for selling new.

Any ideas as to best place to sell gratefully received! Normally I would put a saddle in my local saddlers but not sure if this is a good idea as the WOW needs fitted by a specialist fitter.

Admin - this is NOT an ad - I genuinely want advice - hence I have not put in size of saddle, what flaps are included etc or any details about it!

Wow's are quite specialist, so you either need to find a saddler who fits one or sell on eBay. However it is not going to be pleasant if you bought from new as average loss looks to be around £700

, as saddles don't often make over £800 on eBay.

Only know as I have been sharking for new panels, as feel £360 for new panels is taking the wee wee when they sell for under £200 on eBay!

Out of interest what's the story with the wow? I am wondering whether mine are helping or hindering my SJ'ing.

I LOVE my WOW but it was bought for my horse that died in June. It doesn't fit my 3 year old - wrong back shape. It does fit my 7 year old but I co-own her and my co-owner hates it so we had to buy a saddle we could both ride in (which I hate, lol). So I use it once every 2 weeks to hack out in with the jumping flaps on. I thought I might just keep it to hack out in as its so comfy - but finally co-owner and I have found a saddle we both like so would rather sell the WOW and get another Amerigo. I paid well over £2000 for it as it has 2 sets of flaps (giant block dressage and jumping), girth, pump kit etc. If I will lose a huge amount I may just keep it as I am sure I will eventually get another horse that it suits! Or maybe I will do more jumping and hacking with the older mare as she has a huge jump and it does dressage horses good to have a bit of variety

Sorry to hear you are having problems jumping with yours. Saddles are so individual - its so hard to find something that suits horse and rider

If you put on a reserve you will pay quite a lot in listing fees that you may not get back.

I would start it at a price you would accept.

The other thing is that in your case it might be better to split your items, as you will get quite a lot for the flaps, flair kit, extra headplates alone.

I just paid £26 for a headplate on eBay!

It may be worth giving it a go as I suppose I can put on a reserve price?

I agree with CotswoldSJ - it cost me about £36. Good Luck

I really haven't a CLUE about e-bay!!!! So do I put in an advert and say the price is X. Do people then bid or does someone that will pay x contact me?

3 Options

- Auction
- Fixed Price
- Classified ad

If you wanted say £950 for the saddle

Auction & Fixed Price
Insertion Fee £1.30 (whether it sells or not)
If sold eBay takes 8.75% of the initial £29.99 (£2.62) + 5.25% of the initial £30.00 - £599.99 (£29.93) + 1.5% of the remaining balance of the final selling price.

If you add a reserve its non-refundable and would be 2% of the price you wantede, so in this case you'd lose £19 whether it sold or not. Hence why I think its a bad idea

Classified ad - not available for saddles, but for non-property services its £12.99 per ad.

So for £1.30 an Auction style at a price you would expect (or hope for!) is generally the first port of call!

I had a minimum price I was prepared to accept and that's what I put in as the starting price. Didn't get any offers til last 24hrs although had lots of questions before that, then bids went over £900. If you get onto e-bay, go into selling and take your time and you should be fine. Just make sure you are prepared. In other words have your ad written out and 2 or 3 photos. Good luck
