Is it just me that struggles picking up poo? My dog walking kit always now includes wet wipes and hand sanitizer.

Have tried the tie handle bags and the mini bin bag ones that almost go up to your elbow (pretty Father Xmas design on too!), different ways such as one or two handed and double bagging but I still haven't got the 'knack' :(

The only thing that guarantees I don't get mucky hands is if I ask my kids to do it :D but they're not always with me.

Dog is fed Arden Grange, wormed regularly and is 'solid' - sorry if too much info there - it's just the amount of what I have to pick up I struggle with.

Any help or support appreciated.

I have to say I notice a huge difference since I started feeding raw, much less poo and much more easy to manage.
I just collect and save normal bags from places like Tesco etc, don't use 'bespoke' poo bags at all really.

How much is your dog pooping, I though Dylans were big but yours (well your dogs) sound massive. are you feeding too much??

Depends I seem to have a endless supply from Badminton still (friend works on site and has boxes of the poo bags at home lol)

Nappy sacks work well, I use these if going out with the car where there will be no bins they smell nice lol. And I have a habit of leaving them in the car....anyone fancy a lift just ask hahaha.

I just do the one handed grab grab turn bag inside out. Unless its a Teal excited poo (he tends to get the runs when he gets really excited when out walking). So I scoop what I can and try my best to kick it away or get a decent amout of countryside on top of it.

Moved on to poo bags after I found the supermarket carrier bags sometimes had little holes in the bottom which meant I could smell the contents of the bag when carrying it to the nearest bin which made me gag! The bigger size of the bag did make the job easier.

Have thought of feeding raw but would need a freezer in the garage and not sure if I can get one that would work in low temperatures.

I walk in our own fields so dont tend to pick it up they always seem to do it around the perimeter.

When Im out in public I tend to use the pound shop ones but I always put some kitchen roll inside it as I cant stand the feel of poo.

For my Dobie's Yule logs (sorry:-)) I ordered some bags in bulk from eBay. they were the best ones and they were perfumed too. They were bigger and stronger than the ones you get in pet shops.

Some are two hands required but mostly can pick up with one hand.

Nappy sacks can be pretty thin though, wouldn't want to pick up a really large one with those. They are also unfortunately see-through. :p Something daft like 10p a pack though.

The tiny hard poo is a huge advantage of the raw diet, Ricoh came to us with two-bagger poos (and intermittent runny arse ) but now produces a couple of small dry pellets. :D

we get decent thick ones for free from the council shop :) They are just like nappy bags but thicker. A few years ago they used to be heavy duty plastic with two little cardboard bits at the top and you would kinda scoop under the poo with the cardboard and then turn it inside out and there you go :) They didn't seal though so I think that's why they stopped them. You can also get a little scoop thats like nippy together thing (think of zippys mouth!) and you put the bag inside then nip round the poo up!

heres a link incase you couldn't picture it even with my amazing descriptiveness

I really can't picture how you are managing to get so mucky - do you have long fingernails that are piercing the bag perhaps :D

I use the Bob Martin tie handle bags you can buy in the supermarket. I turn it inside out so I am wearing it like a glove, scoop with the 'gloved' hand, then use my other hand to de-glove my hand... if that makes sense?? :p The secret is to keep the tie handles way up your wrist, well away from the scooping part ;)

The only time I ever have a problem is if I am trying to (sorry :o) scrape a particularly runny offering up and manage to pierce the bag with my nail. That results in a really special sort of dancing on the spot and subsequent dashing into the house, which the dogs find very entertaining indeed :D:D

ETS: I go around the garden picking up 3 or 4 big poos at a time using one bag, so I know my method works for, erm, big jobs :D

Another vote for a raw diet and Tesco basics nappy sacks. Before he was put onto a raw diet I always used to get overspill. Now, on raw, they're lovely little pellets that are so simple to pick up!

Worrying that I got excited by dog poo when he started on raw... :D

Rectal gloves... Very long, adequate dexterity, easy to tie. Just look a bit odd. Assume you can get them from farmers' merchants - poo bag buying is OH's job!

Best (worst) thing I did was go on walk with 3 bags only. Felt like more when I grabbed the handfull from the rose bowl vase I won a few years back... Normally need 1, so 3 is safe(ish). 1 poo early in walk, conveniently close to bin, easy. But we got "interrupted" so another poo on foot path, no problem, only idiot me manages to snag full bag on bramble dealing with gate. Put poo in last bag without tieing the knot and start praying that there won't be a 3rd. Not sure what I'd've done had that been the case! Probably had to go home and come back for it.

Mr Hooligan thanks for the links. Broodle - I don't have long fingernails and I'm impressed that you can pick up 3 or 4 !! I'm just trying to get the one in the bag. Doesn't help when he goes on longer grass/bramble edges/leaves + twigs. What bugs me is that none of you and my kids don't have a problem, it's just me :o

I use Morrisons own poo bags, they are scented too and when there's a big one to pick up I just split it in half and use two bags - I only have tiny hands. :o Sorry, that sounds like I split the bag in half, I mean the poo!

I use the black tie handle bags, i also take an old bread bag with me as well as we normally take between 3 - 5 dogs on a walk, use the poo bag for the poo (funnily enough) and then put it in the bread bag, you can get about 7 or 8 poo bags into the bread bag and saves you having to carry several different poo bags (I learned this off my friend who has a dog walking business)!!!!

I use the ones that come on a roll as I have one of those naff bone shaped bag holders on the lead - yes, I know how naff they are, but it saves me accidentally forgetting bags when I change my coat. Only trouble is I have awful problems opening them, I think my fingers just get too cold and I end up scrabbling away at them uselessly, cursing, while the offering steams at my feet!

Of course the ideal scenario is that we have a stick and flick-able contribution, which Henry is fortunately very decent about producing:D

Nappy sacks are cheap, easy to use and big enough for most sizes of dog!! This discussion reminds me of a time I had taken one of my dogs to see a specialist in the centre of Cambridge to have his semen frozen. During a break in proceedings I took him for a walk in a nearby park and used an old Sainsbury bag as a poo bag. As we were walking along a teenager rode his bike very fast past us, grabbed the bag and disappeared. I'd love to have seen his face when he stopped to examine his haul >vbg<
