So, the new pup is home :D. Eight week old Border Collie :D

Her coat is a little dull and I'd like some food that will help liven it up. She's come with Wagg dried food, but it's not puppy specific - is this a problem?

It's been years since we had puppies and no doubt things have moved along apace, so any wise words would be much appreciated :D

Our LH puppy who is now just over 7months old was started on Fish4puppies which imo is one of the best foods out there, this was prior to going on to raw. As our puppy is owned by my daughter and her boyfriend who have now gone on holiday we have put her on to Orijen to make life easier for me. Both these feeds are expensive but to give them a good start in life it is well worth it.

Waggs is bottom end dog food and will just make your puppy hyper.

Ditto fish4puppies, our heeler pup has been on it and everyone who sees him comments on his condition and the shine on his coat. I am just changing him over to the adult version.

Sorry, also meant to say, puppies don't really need puppy specific food, bit of a myth. Choose something that suits your budget, but remember that anything commercial from the supermarket will be poor, regardless of advertising. Use the dogfoodanalysis website for reviews. Avoid EC permitted additives (BHT, BHA-carcinogenics)

Thank you :D. D2 is off looking at the analysis site :D :D

We've fed raw in the past and were happy with it. Can't remember why we swapped back..., must have been a reason for it at the time...

It's not always the most convenient and sourcing can be a pain. Here is a list of suppliers, though. I recommend the Dog Food Company who are based in Norfolk but deliver anywhere south of Lincolnshire but not too south or west.

If you have a decent supplier, it is the most economical feed and IMO, the healthiest.

I had my pup on barking heads up till recently which was a great food but after seeing so many good things about skinners on here and it's a whole heap cheaper, I've switched to skinners duck and rice. Pup looks great on that too. :) She's a border collie mix and even the white on her coat gleams yet she's never really brushed and only been bathed once :p (she's very short coated. Her mum's a dalmation x whippet so she gets her fine coat from her)
