I need to get one for the boy who is very sensitive to flys especially while hacking, its just not fun for him at the moment, constantly trying to get rid of flies around him and trying to run away from them! so I need a ride on fly rug :)

I need some help with which rug you guys think is the best?
What experiences have you had with ride on fly rugs? Which ones are the best, for fit and coverage? (he is a large, wide chested ISH)

thanks!! :D

Another bump as this is something I would be interested in as my girl turns herself inside out to get away from the flies not nice

I'm thinking of trying similar to Poppy, as I can't find one small enough for an exmoor. Meanwhile, I've been using my Hi-viz mesh exercise sheet, which the flies don't seem to like. Met another livery out hacking this morning and she even commented on the lack of flies on him. For the front end I've been throwing the reins up and down when we get attacked, letting them brush his head, ears and neck.

Another vote for Amigo Fly Rider - brilliant, and love the detachable neck.

I have a brand new in bag one needing a new home - bought a new one for horse last year, as he got eaten alive by nasty Scottish clegs, but moved 500+ miles to the south coast before the old one had fallen apart so this has never been used and is not needed here as my boy isn't sensitive to anything except killer clegs! PM me if interested!

I've got the amigo one too. Don't think there are that many around that are made for riding (as opposed to sticking a saddle on top of a turnout one I s'pose).

I really like it, soft and thin so doesn't get in the way, fitted well without too many dangly bits, goes from the top of the bridle to over the tail and easy to fit/use. He was def happier with it on as we were on hols and the horseflies were awful where we were. Can't remember if it covers the belly, not sure it does but gives decent coverage round the body.

I teamed it with a naf bridle tag for his head, which also seemed to work well. A nice look - not !

I have the HKM one and like it a lot :) Seems to cover the bits that need to be covered, and can be attached to a bridle if needed (we don't bother). The neck part also fits fine over the very large double sided mane :) ETA he's a big broad ISH 17hh - takes a 7ft rug and takes a 7'3" HKM fly sheet because I wanted it generous fitting.

Horse doesn't even seem to notice he looks like a knight's charger ;) and is much quieter to ride with less tail swishing, biting at chest and sides and general grumpiness. I use a fly fringe attached to his bridle to keep them off his face.

I believe the Cashel Bug Armour is supposed to be the best one, but very costly compared to the HKM :)

Thanks for your replies :) I was looking at the amigo ones but they don't have a belly flap, does it make much of a difference having one or not? :)

has anyone had problems with the front straps? i would think it would wiggle back under the saddle and pull on the chest straps. (i ride up and down big hills)
