Hi All, please can you recommend any saddle pads or half pads suitable for a horse who has muscle atrophy under the sadle and behind the shoulders? I have a 22 yo TB and and bought a new saddle (Thorowgood dressage t6) back in may which was fitted professionaly. Whilst the saddle fits it is not 100% as my boy has muscle atrophy behind the shoulders and on one side of his back so the saddle bridges slightly. and he does not seem 100% happy especialy in trot. He has big shoulders. Is there a good pad I can buy to help until he muscles up again?

Have a look at the Balance International site. Their pads are designed to be used with their own saddles, but can be used under other saddles too - they give details of sizes in the shop part of the site.

nuumed do some lovely ones, very padded with extra padding under the saddle area. I use them on my boy who has very high withers and not alot of muscle.

My saddler actually fitted my saddle with a pad to help with my mare's muscle atrophy.

My pad is a prolite with the pad you can add or remove it's wonderful!

It might also be worth getting the saddle checked again as horses can change shape very quickly and mine changed so much in 3 months (improved atrophy) that the saddle had to have flocking removed!

Thanks for the feed back guys! I have already tried a limpet pad in the 20 mm version but found it too bulky and thought it restricted my horses shoulders as you cvould seem them bulge when his shouldres moved back towards the saddle. I will do some more investigation on the web for above mentioned pads. More advise welcome!
Thanks!
