Hi all.

Am preparing to bring my lad back into work after Christmas after being turned away since August. He'll be 4.

I'm arranging for the saddle fitter to come out and he's bringing me a T4 to try on him, but I'm debating on whether to get leather (as will do a few ridden shows in summer) or synthetic (easier to look after).

Do I get an adjustable saddle, or a cheap non adjustable knowing he'll change shape a million times over the next year or two?

I don't mind a second hand version of something either, if anyone has recommendations of something pricey!

Argh decisions! If anyone could share their ideas or what they bought for their youngster I'd be most grateful :)

My first saddle for my youngster (after my backing saddle) I had thorowgood saddle as I found the adjustable gullet really handy for when he changed shape, it was light and really comfy.

I used to have a T4 but I have just bought a T8 and it's fab

If you can get an adjustable saddle which fits well, they're perfect for youngsters

You need to try them though as the fit is very different. The thorowgood standard and cob, and the new wintec standard and cob ( not the old banana shaped one!) should cover most shapes.

They're well made, comfortable for you and the horse and good value for money. They're also easily available second hand ( so once you know what fits you don't need to buy new) and, much MUCH more so that leather, keep their value to resell.

They're also plenty smart enough to show in.

I have a prestige gp for my youngster, it can be adjusted by my saddler

I'm not keen on synthetic saddles personally.

I have the Thorowgood T6 which is a leather look saddle. have shown in it and it's brilliant. It most certainly had the judges fooled! Can get them quite cheap second hand for around £250 (that's what I got mine for off Preloved).

I bought it for my ex-racer who is currently reschooling and he changes shape every week! Been through 3 saddles during the time of having him until I settled with my Thorowgood. Best decision I made.
Also always get complements on how nice it is aswell :D
