Best safety stirrups? Acavallo? Tech? Flexi?

I got some new acavallo arena stirrups (about £120) thinking the side would only release under pressure of a fall. However the arm is simply on a spring and opens easily. Don't like the thought of basically riding in a stirrup with no side! Anyone tried the alternatives? Tech stirrups have a side opening too but it held in place with a spring AND magnets. Is the hold stronger? For £200+ they're alot.

I currently use ones similar to springer with the rubber bendy sides. I hear very rarely the chain in the rubber can snap though. And also FreeJumps rarely can snap it's reported? Some people say the Acavallo Opera (where the leather goes through two arms) are safety ones, but i think this is wrong - they wouldn't open in a fall.

Any other options out there below the £150 mark?

I have the tech ones and they don’t open when riding in them but you can open them with just a good pull if you want

Have you tried riding in them? In practice there should not be much pressure on the side of the stirrup so they may work OK. I have no experience of them and so cannot comment first hand.

Ive ridden in both the Tech and the Acavello Arena. Personally prefer the Acavello. Oddly, I found with the Tech, they would slightly open and close (opening at the top and hinged at the bottom) as I was riding, going click click click all the time when they close again. I was afraid of them totally opening and I just didn't feel secure in them. I honestly wasn't expecting to find that, given the price tag. I actually prefer the cheaper Acavello which is hinged at the top and opens at the bottom which doesn't open when I ride. It's completely perfect preference though

Hi, I didn't no as that might have invalidated my right to return them. For dressage I would be happy to, but xc and hunting - I just can't see myself being happy to ride in something which is basically an open side :O

Very timely thread for me - I usually use the Sprengers but I have a recently purchased saddle without any stirrup hook (an endurance set up with short leathers attached at the bottom flap of the saddle ) so exactly as MissP has stated here, I would be quite happy to rely on the leather slipping off the stirrup hook in an emergency with my previous more traditional set up.

Today I have ordered some of the Acavello Arena safety ones to try with the endurance set up and will see how I get on. Slightly concerned now that they might be constantly flying open at the merest hint of pressure from the outside of my boot.

I use flexi caged sturrups and absolutely love them from both a comfort and safety perspective.

There is an inch at the side that is solid before the opening bit, so you might feel comfortable with them. I do have a bit of an idiot for a horse

The Acavellos don't - the Tech's do. I've got both.
