So I'm considering changing bedding from straw to shavings, what has everyone found to be the best brand and why?

We use Hunters at the yard, which are fab by the looks, just expensive! £9.25a bale!

So what does everyone use and how much do you pay per bale?

thanks!

I use bedmax at £7.50 a bale.. Very absorbent and my mare wee's like Niagara falls... Only slight problem I get is if she's in longer in the morning she box walks and there is always a load of shavings at the front of the stable which is mushed in with poo, so for that reason I get through about 1 bale a week (2 on a bad week)

I use Thoroughbred, I pay £7.75 a bale. Apparently they are more expensive the further north you go. So I expect if you are further south they may be a bit cheaper. I'm in Lancashire

I also use bedmax, not a problem absorbent, I pay £6.85 (in Surrey). Some of the other owners dont like as quite large flakes, they prefer more traditional woodchips (like snowflake) as their horse buries the poo and the bigger flakes makes it more difficult to muck out and cause more wastage. My horse is pretty clean so not much wastage, use about 1 bale a week :)

Snowflake soft chip, I don't like big flakes and these are absorbent and don't get stuck in his tail or on his rugs. I pay £6.50 a bale and put one in a week, working out cheaper than having him on straw for me as he used to eat so much straw.
