best sites for advertising horse for sale?

Would you prefer a large, medium or small yard (as in number of people and horses there)

i've been helping my friend write an ad for her horse she wants to sell

she had advertised him previously on horsemart , ad now expired , she had lots of enquiries/emails but nothing came of them ( i tend to think there are lots of browsers & certainly some timewasters use horsemart )

so , my recommendations were horsequest & H&H of course , she is reluctant to pay for a magazine ad in H&H ( not an expensive horse ) & i think its the same price on H&H net advert as horsequest

question has anyone used both? which do you think is most effective? & do you think its worth the extra for an ad in H&H magazine? (about £145 cheapest H&H ad compared to £35 net)

thankyou!

I would either choose Horsequest OR a H&H magazine ad. I wouldn't bother with an H&H web only ad, as the site is pretty hopeless for potential vendors to use. I know when we were looking we abandoned looking at the H&H site, due to its limitations. We did, however, browse the printed ads in Horse & Hound magazine.

When I was looking I also found H&H site hard work. I found Horsemart easiest as I could put in a more specific search criteria than most other sites.

TGM what limitations did you encounter with the H&H site?

[/ QUOTE ] The search function is really restrictive - we were looking for a 14-14.2 hander, but the search filter only lets you choose a really wide band - ie 14 - 16 hands! Made it really difficult to find what we were looking for.

I wouldn't put in H&H magazine TBH and I despise the Horsequest website! I'd tend to put an advert on www.horses-sales.com, its £5 (I think) for a text ad and £10 (it was when I advertised earlier in the year anyway!) for a photo ad. Sold a few horses through it. Otherwise, if no luck ther then Id put an advert in Horse Deals magazine.

When I was looking to buy my horse earlier this year I eventually gave up with all the other sites and only used Horsemart for searching for them, as it's easily the best site to navigate around (IMO).

I would agree with that. Horsemart is easy to use and you can choose lots of different criteria to find what you want.

I hated horsequest. You have to trawl through load and loads of unsuitable ones to find the ones you might like. For instance if you want a 14.2 all rounder, you have to look in pony club ponies, show jump poines, native ponies etc, etc, etc.

So user unfriendly

I loved Horsequest WHEN people put where in the country they were from! Found my boy on Horsemart, but H&H and Horsequest were my first places to look.
