I am looking for new reins. I like the feel / bendyness of the Jeffries Biogrip reins but don't like the fact that they are not smooth. Does anyone know whether the Jeffries (or Albion) Eventa reins are equally flexible?

Alternatively, I also like the Albion nubuck reins but can't find a local stockist. It sound like they would have a nice soft feel. Does anyone use them? How are they to ride with?

Thanks for reading.

If you're not looking for leather/conventional reins specifically; I can highly recommend the clip-on Endurance type synthetic reins. Not only are they easy-care but also they're wonderfully flexible and sit nice and lightly in the hand as well as giving an extra bit of movement to the contact which my boy likes.

Sorry not sure of the link but Performance Equestrian is a good place to start. There are other places doing these sort of reins too, have a look on E-bay. You can get them in brown or black if you don't want all the blingey colours!

I get the very cheap libbys ones - they go in the wash, are wonerfully soft yet grippy and come with rein snaps or loop attachments (i prefer the latter as dont knacker the washing machine and a wonderfully soft contact)

Thanks for the recommendation. They seem nice reins for hacking / schooling. However, I would prefer more traditional looking reins that I can use at local competitions.

Thanks. I have had a look at the website. Do you know if these are available with a more traditional buckle or hookstud fastening?

I bought some last year for my old mare - not sure on the make but I 'think' they were Bridleway ones. They were relatively cheap, were rubber with grip and really lightweight and flexible. :)

Anglebracket - the performance equestrian ones are the same as the Biogrip ones, but have synthetic ends rather than leather, so to answer your question, no they won't have billet ends, they use buckles or Conway clips.

I have some Stubben, Whitaker and some German reins I bought on ebay from saddlery4u. They are all equally as good, very good grip and very bendy.

I bought some synthetic rubber covered wintec ones which are really soft and seem to shape to my fingers - very good in wet conditions too!
