Best storage containers

Hi ive just brought a 20kg bag of sugar beet and 16 plus horse nuts what is the best and most reasonable price to store the bags in to prevent the rats getting in? Also my gelding is in grazing 19 yrs old and is a welsh x how much do i need to feed him as he is having little exercise at the moment.

Black, plastic refuse bins from B & Q or similar.

Plastic dustbins are cheap, and normally do a good job of keeping the rats out, but occasionally they have been known to chew through them.

As for feeding your veteran - what condition is he in at the moment? Is he a bit skinny? Does he get any hay at all?

He is in good health not skinny at all and when i go up i give him a net of hay to eat whilst grooming etc. As winter is coming thought id start giving him the extra food ready for winter as he is kept out all yr round

We use galvanised dustbins, the rats and mice haven't chewed through yet. They did chew through the plastic bins we had a few years ago. The metal bins last forever, had them 10 years - no sign of rust.
