With summer (hopefully) on the way, I'm ready to buy that all important first lot of suncream for Genie's nose. However, which one? I know from experience that the thicker and gloopier the better, but does anybody have a particular one that they find stays on and is really good?

Many thanks!

Which? magazine did a thing on suncream (on people, but guess same for horses). And cheap crap from Asda came out as one of the best buys.

Both my horses have very pink noses.I always use any Kids factor 50.It is fairly think and does not rub off easily. But i do use a nosenet on my cob mare as she is pink all the way round her mouth and muzzle.

Cheap high factor sun block! Which he then proceeds to rub off on anything near by - usually me if I am not watching him.

PS it does help - I use stuff for kids that is cheapest I can find.

I tend to go with what is on offer. Last year it was factor 50 Ambre Solaire for kids. 2 bottles did two ponies all summer. So although it is more expensive, it lasts longer as you dont need to apply it every day.

I used Simple on Vinny last year. He hated having it applied and seemed less p!ssed off with me when I used the frgrance free stuff.

West Gate Gold label SunGuard is the only stuff that's worked well for my VERY pink nosed cobs.

It's a thick white paste that's almost hard when it's cold but goes into a smooth paste once warm and on their skin. It doesn't soak in, it's hard to rub off and, once you've got a couple of days layers on, their nose becomes grubby and is completely barriered from the sun. It lasts the whole 24hrs too.

And to demonstrate :

With it on (applied that morning)

And without it on:

It also has no smell (unlike most human suncreams, which incidently need re-aplied every couple of hours to be effective). My gutys HATE normal human suncream and morning creaming turns into a battle.

I like Barrier Sun Burn Soother for horses you only need to put it on once a day and it stays on like paint it is the only thing what works for my horse I have tried all the kids ones I have for my little boy but for some reason they didn't work. I only use to bottles a year it last ages.
