So I think my mare may have mites in her feathers on her back legs. I posted a while ago about her refusing to pick them up and I thought it was stiffness related... since then I have realised she is really, really itchy so I am thinking potentially mites?

I have covered them in KillItch tonight, as it's all I had. But am I right in thinking that the acrove ingredient used to treat sweetitch (benzyl benzoate) is the same for mites, so Kill Itch will treat it?

The best thing I've ever found was Coopers Fly Repellent Plus. I was using it to treat lice and realised that the elderly cob's feather mites had gone, too. The first time I'd managed to get rid of them properly in years. I'm not sure if Coopers is still available.

I use Coopers Spoton and it’s brilliant

Ah.. my favourite subject ?

Best thing is to clip the feathers off if you can. I then wash in a dog flea shampoo and drench legs in watered down cattle wormer plus a shot of dectomax
