Best trimmers / clippers for feathers

Can any one recommend any clippers or trimmers that are good to clip extremely thick feathers off my horses legs, and then can be used to keep them tidy? Not too expensive, as they are only to be used to keep his legs tidy. As quiet as possible please, as he is not keen on the noise of clippers, although we are working on that.

I use Lister clippers but not sure if quieter ones are available. Would think that any horse clippers would do. Easiest way of tackling the job is to wash his legs the day before as clean hair is much easier to cut and have a helper to twitch him if needed to keep the horse calm and get the job finished. Helps to have sharp blades and clean and oil them frequently. Hope I'm not going to be lynched for suggesting a twitch

I dont think anything other than proper clippers will do cob feathers from my experience! i have some ending on ebay in a couple of days if yous earch liveryman clippers

On the few occasions I have had to clip out the clydesdale legs and when I have done a friend's shire x legs, I have used fairly hefty clippers - they do take some doing.

You need very clean hair, you can help the process by cutting it first with sissors to get the worst off and then go over with the clippers.

I have just bought a pair of Liveryman Element trimmers - they are about £70 so not the cheapest, but this weekend they completely trimmed up my very hairy traditional - bum bloomers, belly, all over the body cat hairs and face and ears and were excellent. I think they probably could take on legs as well if I ever needed to clip out for an xray etc.

I dont think you need the biggest/most expensive clippers to clip feathers.

i had a very hairy gypsy cob, and used some moser avalon clippers (£200 cordless clippers) and they sailed through them no problem, they are very quiet and the horse barely noticed them! they are much tougher than the description/reviews give them credit for
