Hi all,
I have a 13.2hh Connie gelding that I’m struggling to find a well fitting turnout rug for.
he has a narrow chest but a really deep neck, so if I find something that fits his shoulders well it’s tight over his withers when he puts his head down!
I thought I’d solved it last year with a Rhino 0g 5’9 but it appears to of shrunk when professionally washed, so I tried a Rambo original leg arches, 5’9 better length, but it’s still tight over the withers when his head is down. I have a swish combo fly rug 5’9 which isn’t as tight but I can still barely fit a hand under, I’ve also tried bucas, same issue! I used to use weatherbeeta but the last one was too wide across the shoulder and not adjustable. I also tried derby house elite which was good fit but leaked terribly.
Any suggestions for brands that may work? I’ve already spent so much on rugs that don’t fit properly!
Must be totally waterproof as I only use it when the weather is really wet and windy and cold, as he has a lovely thick coat
Thank you

My 14.1 Connie fits best into an Amigo rug but she is quite a traditional stocky type. This would be my go to brand from now. I also have a gallop Trojan which is ok. Maybe try second hand before you find the best type for your pony.

Amigo Bravo 12 plus 0g here, also for a connemara, though I’m not sure how yours would compare shapewise.
I also only use it when the weather is particularly bad, and it’s been completely waterproof so far. I have an airmax liner in it, as it’s often thrown on when he’s already wet.

Thank you all, I do have an airmax liner too for if he’s wet when it goes on, currently looking into if I can extend the chest a bit as it fits perfectly otherwise, and totally waterproof, very frustrating, I suppose being a bit tight for up to 24hrs at a time isn’t too bad, he’s not wearing it all the time 🤔

He is pretty stocky, sorry I’m not sure how to add a photo, he has a massive head and neck for his small size, but quite narrow chest, I presume partly as he’s retired. I did try an amigo bravo but in a 5’6 so it was definitely too small lengthwise

Unfortunately Wugs don’t take liners, but they fit my deep chested built-like-a-brick-outhouse with withers IDx cob very well indeed.

6’9” on a 16.1hh.

She was formerly in regular Rambos, but as she’s aged (she’s 19yo with PPID) they tended to cut into her withers. The Wugs are grand on her, and don’t slip. I have them in 50g, 200g and 400g. She’s rugged throughout the winter as she has a PSSM variant and has to be kept warm.

Thank you, my boy is 21 now I’m sure he’s narrow shouldered partly because he’s not ridden anymore, I’ll take a look into the wug, I suspect he’d only need a 0 or 50g

Mine is also narrow chested but wide in the middle. Most of her rugs are Amigo Pony 5’9”. They are hard to get hold of but are a good fit and last for years.
Thanks, I did have one of these but his tummy picked out the bottom, it was a mini skirt lol, can’t remember about the neck when he grazed though, this photo it looks tight, it had the twin clip frontIMG_1680.jpeg

My 15hh connie is a traditional chunky type and the Shires Highlander plus fits her very well. She has a similar neck to your pony but possibly wider chest.
