Yes, I do realise that the edict has gone out from on high and I am not allowed to rug a native but my field is very exposed and gets extremely windy. I have an elderly Highland whom I rug when the weather is wet and windy or icy and I think I will need to rug one of the mini Shetland fillies. She has a very fine coat and when it rained for the first time since I've had her she was shivering so, unless she grows a good coat in winter (and she might but only time will tell) I would like to know I've got a rug for her in case she needs it.

Any recommendations please as I've never had to buy such a tiny rug before?

I use amigos for my mini Shetland. I don’t have to use them very often but they are the best fit out of the ones I have tried. Mark Todd and Cuddly pony are not a great fit.

Thanks both :) Will look at both of those. I want to get something ordered so it's ready in case we have a massive storm and the temperature drops so much that she starts to shiver again. The other filly is fine and so is my Highland at the moment.

My mini shet wears a 4ft so fortunately I can buy weatherbeeta for him, I have also used ruggles which were good but prefer the wb's. Have used amigo and rhinegold but both poor quality and leaked.

Another for Ruggles.

Snowy, do remember that shivering is a warming up function too. I can find that just by shutting a little one in for a while with ad lib hay can warm them up quite quickly.
Worth getting a light wicking fleecy rug, which you can pop on to wick out the wet for an hour or so if they are really shivery x

Unfortunately my fave rug maker doesn’t make them anymore and I can’t rememebr their name 😂 So I use a ruggles rain sheet. I haven’t actuslly got many waterproofs cause I don’t rug in winter bar a rain sheet so I’m not much help.

Best place to try is minihorsesales preloved on fb
