I have an ID x TB who is more to the ID side. He generally wears a 6'6 rug but some of them are too short. All his rugs are tight round the shoulders due to him having a broad chest.
What are the best turnout rugs for this type of horse. I have weatherbeeta at the moment but they are definitely too tight.'
I will buy him a 6'9 if necessary but its the chest thats the problem

My ISH is really broad and found weatherbeeta to be quite good, he's a 6'9. I've also found Masta rugs are quite generous :)

Premier Equine fits my broad chested tank. Really deep and roomy, true to size length-wise I've found. Superb rugs.

My girly has quite broad shoulders an iv found shires in 6'6 is generous and fits her well (she's pushing 17hh now)

I have exactly the same problem. RID x Clyde. 15.2h maxi cob type. Only needs 6'9" in length but her chest and bottom are huge.

I have an Horseware Amigo on her which is snug. The Shires middleweight she came with is Okish, but the stitching on the front straps isn't going to last much longer and it's a bit of a mini skirt.

I tried a 7' shires with a neck, that fitted her body nicely and didn't strangle her chest but it did cut her breathing off in the neck !

I hope someone comes up with some ideas, over to you.

I had a 15.2hh tank, that also took 6'9" rugs, he had a huge neck, wide chest and deep girth, (not much of a back-side though).
The only rugs to fit him properly were Mark Todd and Masta; Amigos tended to be a bit tight around the shoulders and Wetherbeeta's were an awful fit all round generally.
Saxon rugs fitted ok, but tended to look a bit like a micro-skirt on him as they were not too deep.
Hope this helps.

I have my Friesians and PRE's (both breeds tending to be weirdly broad and deep) in Masta rugs which are just "OK", but not great.

I've got an ID x Cleveland Bay/TB who is mahoosive at 18.3 and still (unfortunately for short a**e me) rapidly growing not only outwards but upwards.
Just forked out a small fortune for a Rambo Optimo including 400gm liner (plus also bought removable 100 and 200gm liners hence 4 rugs in one).
It has absolutely heaps of room in the chest and I believe you can also buy chest extenders for those extra wide neddys.
Cost me a bomb but fits my boy like a glove and doesn't slip either even after a good roll around in the mud followed by a good bucking fit afterwards.
Worth every hard earned penny.
P.S. if anyone is looking to buy one then found a place that sells for much cheaper than elsewhere and has next day delivery included in the price.

Oooh! Thanky you; I've been trying to find one of these forever (P.S. 400grm? Won't he boil?)
Hopefully wont need the 400gm unless I decide to clip him but always good to have it just in case.
The liners are also more or less waterproof too and have their own fittings can in a pinch could be used on their own as stable rugs if needbe.

My boy is a 16.3 shire x with a very broad chest and bum (I know that feeling :D) and takes a 6'9" rug. I have found weatherbeetas fit him well, but last year I splashed out on a Rambo supreme no fill turnout and just have the liners I need so only need one rug and it fits him an absolute treat :)

Premier equine
Horseware amigo rugs
Masta but only really like their stable rugs/fleeces

All fit our shire x cob really well, he takes 7ft to 7ft 3in

Amigo has a new series amigo XL special for horses with broad shoulders. Our Belgian draft fits them beautifully while no other brands fit his broad shoulders. Good luck
