We have decided that a pickup is the vehicle for us and are starting to have a look round at what is available out there.

My dad used to have a Nissan Navara thingy, but we aren't keen as the leg room in the back wasn't brilliant.

Any suggestions? Everyone round here seems to have a Mitsubishi L200, and I do like them a lot, but don't know what else there is out there and if any makes and models have reliability issues.

We are looking at one between 4 and 8 years old due to finances.

I hated the Mitsubishi (Warrior?) horrible drive, loved the Toyota Hilux, but would never touch anything else since the Nissan Navara. Amazing drive. The Hilux is very comfortable drive and lots of space in the back too (more than Nissan) was my favourite until I got the Nissan.

Have you tried the new shape navara, leg room seems fine in ours......

We found that unless we had the budget for an almost new the navara was by far and away the best buy.

The Iszuzu and the VW are nice but too pricey for us.

I wouldn't touch an old shape navara, if I was looking for pre- 2005 I'd go for a Hilux or L200 despite the workhorse like ride.

I'm no expert but we have a Toyota Hilux (2011)) and son has a Ford Ranger (2009). The Ford has a bigger towing capacity but at 2 years old the rails round the back have rusted badly and Ford say they are only covered for a year on the bodywork warranty - they have treated another couple of small areas of rust on the warranty though. The Ford's back seats / leg room feel very cramped whereas the Toyota is very comfy in the back and also seems more spacious in the front. Both handle well and the occasional time I've towed both have been fine. Fuel consumption seems fairly similar on both, the Ford's servicing seems a little cheaper using authorised garages. I have no experience of them but have heard of several people having a lot of problems with Navara's especially when they have done 60 -70K miles and it has been costly to repair them.

Avoid the older shape L200s , the later rangers are good post 2006, older ones are dire on fuel!! Nissans are crap after about 2001 the latest shape are awful for reilability, Isuzu have always been good, hilux are good but have a very poor towing capacity , mazda is a ranger, ford and isuzu are just bringing out new models so you might find some nice s/h trucks about as people trade in for new ones, avoid the low mileage ex farm/constuction ones , best bet is one someone has used as a company car and not had the guts torn out of it towing!!!
even if its done a few miles ...

I had a 08 Nissan Navara Adventura that was the most unreliable vehicle I have had the misfortune to drive in the last 20 years and the experience wasnt helped by the garage that supplied it "polesworth garage", who do not deserve to be in business:mad:.
I am now running a L200 Barbarian 20k miles in 5 months mechanicaly perfect so far but issues with fit and fixture of hard tops its on its third and supplied on useless AT Tyres which ended in a major row I think these problems are down to the Lease Co just get it out the door Cheap as possible, Ido not Recomend Arval.
