Best type of fly fringe?

Ellie is being driven crazy by the flies around her face - she's always suffered with it, and I hate seeing her eyes all puffy and streaming. Fly spray takes the edge off but doesnt get rid of them completely, so I'm thinking of getting her a fly fringe. She doesnt have a headcollar on when she's turned out, so I need to find a fringe that stays on without being attached to anything - are the nylon ones that go around the ears and under the throat safe and efficient to use? I used one of these many, many years ago on my old horse, who disposed of it within an hour (although I think he rubbed it on the barbed wire fence - Ellie has only post and rail in her field.)

Any suggestions?

I use a legacy hood - go over the ears and fasten under the chin with velcro - have got fluffy sheepskin bits too!

why not put a mask on they work alot more better than fly fringes

I use a mask as they seem to stay on better and protect a bigger area. The cashel crusader ones - think they are supplied by equine america? are absolutely wondeful. Nice and soft have good visability and don't rub - expensive but thoroughly reccomend them

The Cashel fly veils are apparently the best, they should be at the price but everyone who has one raves about them! If you search on ebay for Cashel in the Equestrian bit you will find some new ones for sale.

oooh, but don't bother with the Rambo ones, they don't sit tight on their heads and let the flies in round the back!

I would second the Cashel one - I have one of those too and also a premier equine one (but they don't have sheepskin

)

Bob has an Equilibrium fly mask, comes with or without ears. I think it's fab but I've got to be honest - he's only got it cos we won it in a comp. Velcro's on around the ears and under the cheek bones.

I second the vote for the equilibrium ones. I had one of them for my last horse and it was fab. didnt fit my new horse so i bought him a cheap balck one - fell off in a couple of hours. Borrowed another stiffer mesh one (no make) again fell off over night.Borrowed a rambo one that did stay on but wasnt a very good fit - echo the gaps at the back.
Bought a William Funnell one that was on ebay - fits well and stays on altho is a bit 'hard'. Going to invest in another equilibrium one altho may be swayed by the cashel ones.
