Can you recommend a type of mounting block for both mounting from and dismounting onto for a rider with bad joints?

It needs to be able to absorb the shock of getting off on the joints, but also be anti-slip.

I wouldn't dismount onto a mounting block - too easy to miss it or wobble and fall off it! After I fractured my spine I perfected 'slithering' off to minimise impact when I landed.
And last night my very kind OH built me a new mounting block - I specified that I'd like a "big one", and its bl8dy HUGE!! Its 2 steps up and the top is 3ft high!!! What was he thinking - its like a mountain! He will be spending this evening chopping the legs down to make it a more managable height. I think he just got carried away, lol.
I think a few steps up to a decent height, and a large-ish top would be a good idea. Could a DIY type friend/family member make one to your exact specifications, to match you and your horse? To be fair, despite its ginormous height, mine is great quality and really sturdy. Just make sure you tell them how big "big" means!

I got my husband to make me one that is the same height as the stirrup so I only need to step into it, not boost up as I kept straining my Achilles. He then lowered it when I lost my 17h2 and bought a 15h cob.

Everyone uses it because it's much more stable (very four square) than the yard's huge tall wobbly one and you can have the horse anywhere to get on: the top is a whole decking piece so you can wander round on top.

For shock absorption, try a piece of thick rubber matting on top and decent insoles.

I have the same problem. I got my OH to make me a wooden one, made from decking boards so the ridges are non slip, no legs so very stable on the floor. It is the same height as the styrup and I slither off to dismount. Dont think you will be able to buy one to meet your needs, I found it much cheaper to have it made, (only cost of wood) Good luck.

After a lot of practise, I can now use:

I used to have to pop the stirrup on last hole too so I could use the block! Now I can hop on (read: heave myself without dying!) without adjusting my stirrups.

When my legs were really bad (nerve damage) I used to have to climb to the top of gates etc but never felt very stable. I'm a big fan of the block above :)

I'm currently using a decorators painting platform doo dah... Folds away when not in use, steps up the 'legs' on the side, all weather, very solid, non slip feet and the 20 odd inches in height makes mounting more of a step up than a 'haul up'... I added some rubber (stable matting type) to the surface for a bit of 'spring'...
