I'm looking to buy a new bridle but when looking they all seem to be made of 'cheap' leather even though the price tag isn't cheap. I'm more then happy to buy in a sale to get good value or if anyone knows of a make that is decent in quality and price please say!
I'm looking to avoid the 'Indian leather' types as would like one that will last, so any ideas would be great!

I bought a Mark Todd 'fancy stitch' one a fair few months back and am very pleased with it. The leather feels nice and soft and it cleans up well. It also has a nice padded headpiece and the noseband strap runs over rthe headpiece not under so doesn't put any pressure on the poll.

It cost £120 I think, that is with a crank noseband though 9didn't actually need a crank but it's nice and padded) with detachable flash. I use it without a flash 98% of the time so it was exactly what I was looking for as you can't tell it has any flash attachment when using it as a cavesson.

Other than that I like the Collegiate ones looks wise but have never had one myself.

This sounds a bit cheap but I'm really chuffed with my robinsons bridle I got on sale for £20! I bought it for every day use. It's really well made - I struggle with 'off the peg' sizes and the overall look is good. Much better than kincade which the dye runs off and leather stretches and goes sticky! Eurgh. Or my flash bridle is a Heritage one off eBay that I got for £30.

Don't have any expensive bridles but ones I have that I am pleased with for quality and value are robinsons own (requisite), kincade and collegiate :)

I am really pleased with an excelsior buffalo leather bridle I bought for 34.99 in my local tack shop, for a budget bridle the leather is really quite nice and supple. Also mega bonus...It has a sparkly v browband! I have seen they have excelsior on equestrian clearance.

My Kincade I bought for showing, oiled it up and stored it carefully - but it's splitting already from one of the buckle holes. And it was only used for one show. I am going to return it to Farmway, do you think it's worth trying another ?

I might be wrong but is it possiblele your bridle is synthetic and oilings messd it up? If not then I'd say its worth asking them to replace it and trying again.. I'm shocked to hear its only lasted the once!!

Mouse and Jazz both have the GFS Advantage grackle bridle which I love. I do try to keep my tack nice and clean and I do look after it, but it's reasonable leather and still looking good. Comes with decent rubber grip reins as well, which is helpful :)

These all the way:

I have a elevator (awful quality- stretching fading and padding not soft)
Sabre( very soft padding and pretty good quality)
I have also come across as a groom at competition yards-
Kate negus- really unimpressed with padding squidgyness although leather itself seemed pretty good quality
albion- again, even though there is a lot of hype about this make, the bridle itself didn't wow me. Obviously made to last but padding not hugely soft.

Premiera bridles, for me, out shone all of the above. The bridle came to me buttery soft and very very supple. 6 months on and still looks good as new. I currently have the rolled double bridle and looovveee it. Going to buy a flat leather snaffle with bling (as shown on link) as soon as it comes back into stock for my youngster.

Love my Jeffries falcon. Was £79 and has been used constantly for 18months now and looks good as new.
Would like to keep it nice for shows and looking for a new nice but everyday/xc/huntong one. Gonna go either pink equine, or stubben if feeling flush.

Hate hate kincade, load of rubbish. I had one that dyed my old boys face brown when he sweated. And another that cracked after a week's use!

This is Shy in his first outing at a show - Kincade. It's actually the cheek piece shown that has the tear in it.

Can't quote but can you buy equestrian stuff off decathlons website?

Hi,

Yes you can - delivery prices are on their website. I brought ponio a bridle similar to this one in feb : http://www.decathlon.co.uk/edinburgh-bridle-reins-brown-id_8187903.html I'm really happy with it for the money - the only problems I found is that the bridle I brought is taking a while to soften up - the leather is pretty thick and was on the generous side and the reins came up longer than I'd like - otherwise can't fault it.
