Hi all, i am looking to get a chaff for the winter that will help keep his weight on as he drops off most winters!
Is there a good chaff out there that will help keep it on, but that wont fizz him up at all?
Low cost would be good too?
Thanks in advance
Kate

I feed Star ALfa A Oil and absolutely swear by it - he gleams all winter and keeps his weight very well (in fact too well sometimes!) he's a tb so needs no excuse to fizz up but he's as chilled as they come on this. I mix it with Allen and Page Fast Fibre which is good stuff too. :)

alfalfa-a oil is good for weight gain, it isn't cheap at approximately £14 a sack but it does it's job and is highly palatable (not that I've tasted it)

i used to feed Alpha A for approx 20 years, however the cost, and the fact that nowadays its like dust means that I have changed onto Grazeon (approx £8.90 a bag). Good long fibre, without any sugar added. My horses eat it well, from Welsh cobs to TB's. It is a bit dry though, so I always damp it.

D&H just grass, the skinny bad doer tb is FAT, she really drops off over winter and im still on the first bag and I can see the difference its fab. I think its around 8.50 a bag but I get mine for 3.50 lol :-D

Alfa-A molasses free, its about £12.50 a sack but - the sacks do weigh 20kg and I think this is a larger bag than most other brands and so works out quite good value wise, my very sharp welsh b and my tb mare are both on this with soaked alfalfa pellets (£8.50 ish for 20kg) plus vits and mins and are both doing very well atm, although they are both still out 24/7 as the weather here is still dry and quite mild, but I am pleased with it so far.

I use Spillers Readigrass. It seems to last forever and it certainly keeps weight on. They also love it yummy stuff! It takes them a while to eat a bucket full, so I leave it on overnight in a trug.
