Best value for money lightweight rug?

No point going for the real cheapy ones as they are just generally crappy. I like Amigo rugs. Fairly priced and always find them durable and a decent fit.

I would usually follow the "you get what you pay for" rule but one of my horses has a very cheap Saxon rain sheet - its the most waterproof lightweight I've ever come across!

I really rate Ruggles rugs, I've bought a couple for a youngster who's still growing. They are quite strong and reasonably priced.

I love the saxon lightweight I have, my past two lightweights have leaked (rhinegold and one I can't remember) but so far so good with this one! My friend has a Shires Tempest and that's a great one too

Knight Rider are great, I have several and they really are a great fitting, well cut and waterproof rugs.
I also have a Pippa Funnel LW and that has done 7 years. Not so watertight now, but if I proofed it properly I'm sure it would be!

Maxwell Mill off ebay. High denier, generous fit (unlike many cheap rugs! ) and well made. Kept the old girl dry even in yesterday's continuous rain. And they're £30 inc p&p.

I'd say Saxon, Shires or Amigo as none of them will break the bank. Ruggles are also ok although I found the fit a bit odd and had a few issues with quality of stitching on the straps. I also really like the look of some of the 1200d ones weatherbeeta have just started doing and am prob going to treat myself to one of them to have as a spare at some point.

Another vote for the Shires. I disagree with the amigo though, total waste of money, the first time she had it on and it rained she was soaked and the company refused to refund as it wasn't meant to be rainproof but shower proof :rolleyes3:

I use the amigos as they fit well and, crucially, are nylon lined. However I don't find they last very long as they are only 600denier outer sand the surcingles and front straps tend to come off. However if bought in sales the cost per wear given the good fit is still worth it IMO.

I had this problem with a rambo lightweight. It would just leak and leak and leak even with the slightest bit of rain. I put it away for a few years because I couldn't use it unless it was sunny but then it was too hot for my horse to wear a rug! I recently had it reproofed as the rug wash people where doing an offer but I am not hot holding out much hope for it not leaking!
