Do they actually work? Are they worth it? Which is best?

I’m typically a ‘Champion’ shaped head.

I might have to start riding in my show hat this week as my jockey skull isn’t particularly ‘fresh’! (It got wet at one point last year and smelt like something had died, resurrected with A LOT of hat deodoriser but with the hot weather it’s on the way out.

Is it this one:

This is the hat I've just bought - http://www.discount-equestrian.co.uk/riding-wear/hats-riding-hats/champion-air-tech-helmet.html

Looks lovely, ventilation is brilliant (I am a horribly sweaty person so its been properly tested in the heat the last few days and halleluiah, no sweaty head!). I'm struggling to get the fit just right but then again I've never had a Champion hat before and I do have the world's weirdest shaped head and I dont fit any hats particularly well, so I wouldnt judge based on my weird head!

If you fit Champions then I'd definitely recommend it, lightweight, stylish and does its job very well.

I love the look of the Champion Air Tech but £100 for a hat that doesn't meet PAS 015 seems a lot to me :(

I went shopping at badders and the one above in the pic didn't fit me at all (I have a CO/HS1 shaped head- won't get a champion near me!). Champion lady insisted their new one with a dial system did (I disagreed big gaps at the side)

I have bought the gatehouse airrider and can report back ;) has the dial system too but fitted my basic head shape better and was cheaper (£60) ;)

I only go out and do dressage so the BSEN 1384 is enough for me - but from googling around on PAS 015 it seems that was only developed as an interim for BSEN 1384 as it was taking too long to be developed? So I'm not sure if there is actually that much difference between the two standards?

Here is the article I was reading (page 2 for BSEN 1384 and PAS 015) - http://www.beta-uk.org/media/safety/download/Riders - safety - hat standards.pdf

Just checked with BE rules (dont event myself so wasnt sure if PAS 015 was compulsory for BE) but its not, BSEN 1384 is fine for BE as well so not sure why you are so keen on it being PAS 015? Sorry if I'm missing something, not hugely clued up on hat standards but the air tech seems to meet the major one anyway!

Here are the BE rules to download - chapter 7 for hats. http://www.britisheventing.com/documents.asp?section=145%A7ionTitle=Download+Area

Didn't realise that on the standards, I thought PAS 015 was additonal beyond the BSEN testing but it's been a while since I looked into it to be honest so things may have changed.

Swaying towards the gatehouse air flow at the moment

PAS015 is a higher standard

from the link:

If you were to rank the standards by the demands placed on the hats in
testing the standards both in terms of the types of tests (i.e. anvils) used and
the drop heights used the standards could be rated, from the lowest to the
highest demands as:
EN 1384 & A/NZS 3838
PAS 015 & ASTM F1163
Snell E2001
