I am on the look out for some really well ventilated boots. I need a set of SJ (open front) boots, and full wrap around XC boots. I'm not too picky aside from that they must have awesome ventilation, and aren't gonna cost me both arms and half a leg. What would you guys recommend?

Why are you looking for a "crazy amount" of ventilation? Its difficult to make a recommendation without understanding why you want to boot.

Obviously the best ventilation you can get is no boots. Unless you have a horse who will strike himself for some reason then that is the best option. If you have a horse who strikes himself then use the correct boot for the action you are seeking to prevent.

If you are only using the boots to compete in then you won't really have them on long enough to cause an issue so ventilation isn't as important as strike protection in the correct place for your horse's conformation, action and the height of the fences.

XC could arguably be the exception - but even then you only have boots on for a relatively short time. Where there is ventilation in an XC boot there is also the risk that mud, grit, sharp pieces of stick etc will get through.

So - why do you want to boot. What are you going to boot for and what sort of horse?

I'm booting as horse, a hunter type clydie cross, tends to be a dick and throw her legs around. She's also quite close behind. I'll also be looking for standard brushing boots to protect her legs while schooling and hacking. I want ventilation as she has a current tendon injury so when she comes back into work I want to minimise heat.

Is she feathered? That will significantly influence the boot type you can use. Does the vet support the use of boots despite a previous tendon injury?

Tbh there is truely no such thing!

I personally like the NEW Equine Wear boots, lightweight, and the xc boots are ridged to try and allow as much air through as possible.

She gets a wee bit of feathering in winter, but in summer there's barely any plus I trim it off to attempt to make her look slightly less of a bush pony than she usually does. Vet is supportive, benefits outweigh the risks as I'd rather prevent/reduce further injuries.

I love my Woof Wear ones.. I think they're called Smart Eventing Boots? They're black and orange-y anyway. Vented, and I have noticed that his legs aren't as sweaty as when wearing his brushing boots. I know lots of people rave about the Premier Equine boots as well, but I haven't got any experience of those!

I can't help with SJ boots I'm afraid, I only tend to have OR boots on for SJ!

I used to have premier equine boots which were great but for some reason mine started twisting and so I decided to swap to something else.
I ended up getting the Kentucky boots which are fantastic. They are extremely cool on the leg and very lightweight while being very protective. If your horse has a bit of bone I suggest going for the 'Light' version as these fit the chunkier legs better than the standard Solimbra D30. I have both the light and the D30 and they are fab! Wouldn't put anything else on my horses legs now (one of them has also had a tendon injury!)
