Best veteran horse insurance

I've got my girl with petplan, they'll insure for illness up to the age of 25 or even 26, but I think the horse has to have been insured with them from 21 in order for this?
 
I havnt got mine insured, anything i cant afford to pay for myself wont be worth it for the horse, he's so old he will not be having ops, long term box rest etc
