As title please :D My current one is no longer waterproof so I am in need of a new one as my pony is now a field ornament for a while!! What do people think of the Masta Zing 600D or does anyone have the Chillton 1200D (on ebay)? Also whats the JHL lightweight like? Any other recommendations very much welcome (apart from amigos as they don't suit my mares huge shoulder :() Many thanks :D

JHL are great. I have 2 medium weights and very pleased with fit and also they stay very water proof. Dont like Masta so wouldn't touch them.

My personal favourite is the Amigo 1200 denier. Don't get the Amigo 600 because they are not waterproof in a lengthy downpour, but the 1200 is excelent.

I don't like Masta rugs as they rub my horses shoulders.

I personally wouldn't go for a masta rug, the ones we've had have fallen apart really quickly. Weatherbeetas are ok, would fit well but the ones we have are more light-shower-proof than waterproof

This may not help at all - cottage craft do pony rugs upto 5'6 and they are just fab!! On equestrian clearance at the second. I have 2 l/w and one m/w.

The amigo 600 I found could be made waterproof if put through the washing machine with reproofer.

Weatherbeeta are ok, but I found the lining ripped easily.

Derby house rugs... love the h/w, m/w but the l/w is rubbish.

Hmmm think those are the only l/w I've tried so far.

Well I have just won on ebay a Rambo LW love it!! Was using an Amigo before that (was a case of I want rather than an I need to buy it).

My other two have Amigos on. Never had leaking problems. Never Masta again though.
Saxons did well but needed reproofing every year.

I have amino 600s, 24 hours in heavy rain and no leak. I like the look of the premier equines as well.

I bought a Mark Todd lw turnout new off ebay a few months ago (the blue check one). Best LW I've *ever* had.

Doesn't slip when he rolls, keeps him dry even in a downpour, VERY generous cut, really well designed tail flap, great quality buckles - I'm a total convert and its well worth the little bit extra money compared to the Mastas and Weatherbeetas I used to buy.

I have a Chillton... great rug for the price. My horse is a warm boy, and actually wears this rug all through the winter as his main rug. It never leaks and is very resistant to his rug ripping antics :)

I also have a Shires Tempest... only 600D but is performing well and again, totally waterproof so far.

ETA - you mentioned large shoulders? My horse has large shoulders. He hated the Amigo... he actually dumped it off twice the first week, and then completely shredded it beyond repair. The Chillton is roomy and fits him well... he wears a 6'9" Chillton, but takes a 7' in the Shires.

Despite poor delivery my LW derby house rug has been brilliant, it has never leaked.

JHL and Mark Todd rugs are two of my favourite brands, they're great rugs.

Masta turnout rugs are terrible.

Great thanks everyone :) Like the look of the JHL, Mark Todd and weatherbeeta ones!! As much as I love Amgios there would be no front left in it after a few months :p

I love my MT, have just purchased a new one after 4 years of solid use (i.e. worn pretty much everyday through winter for the last 4 years). Really solid and waterproof. The JHL come out of the same factory as the MT, but if I remember correctly they are lower denier so unlikely to be as waterproof.
