Best way of washing rugs...

I mean big rugs that you cant get in the washing machine!

Having just jet washed a stable rug that was gross i now,
a) am as wet as the rug
b) cant lift the damn thing
c) just got told of by the parents for making the patio a nice shad of poo water...

I have far too many to send away professionally and as none of them need re - proofing this year i dont see the point.

So over to you guys - how do you do yours?

We have an agreement with a laundrette, we drop them in and he washes them when its quiet and we pick them up the next day!

why bother with the hassle. Other wise get out a stiff brush

I've owned my first horse for 4 & half years and the other one just over a year ........ and I never had a rug cleaned. It that bad?? To be fair my rugs usually get ripped / destroyed ....

i do the same as you

hosepipe, stiff brush, horse shampoo, and a very wet patio afterwards

i couldnt afford to have them washed professionally, so i just make do!

I do mine in the bath (when OH is out) I use non bio powder or rug wash. When they are clean roll them up and prop them up to let most of the water out. When they have stopped running water put them on a fence/gate to dry. It's a work out and you save money!

Hang over a big long gate, and pressure wash then you can leave it there to dry, so you have no heavy lifting to do.

Unfortunaley out of your area but I have a friend who has a rug washing bussiness, and does collection and delivery service, reproofing and mending. Ask around your area, someone will do it, or ask at your local tack shop they often provide this service.

I do rug washing as my business and do a collection and drop off service, although I'm not in your area (West Yorkshire). I charge £7 to wash a stable rug and you would not believe the rugs I have brought back to life!! A lot of Launderettes will not take them due to health and safety reasons and I can understand why. The amount of hairs that are left behind sometimes are horrendous and would certainly block up a domestic machine. It is worth lookin after your rugs as they will last you indefinitely unless they are ripped. My own Rambo Duo turnout has just gone through its 3rd Winter and as I use Nikwax to re-proof it, has never leaked and is still like new. You will save a lot of money in the long run if you look after what you have spent your hard earned cash on.
