Well now Chico has gone to his lovely new home (he's had a good first day says new owner :) ) I need to clean and disinfect my grooming kit before new horse arrives.

What is the best way to clean/disinfect it?

I have some veterinary strength disinfectant but not sure how to clean them first.

I have considered putting them in the washing machine but worried this will ruin them.

Any suggestions?

I've put mine in the washer before & they came out great! Tbf they're not expensive brushes though so I wasn't fussed if it ruined them! I put them in a pillow case first xx

Bucket warm water with fairy liquid. Fairy cuts through the grease. Rub two brushes together to clean. Then rinse and place bristle down to dry.

Bucket of warm water works well. I either use surgical spirit or dettol. then good old scrape with a metal curry comb, then leave in the sunshine for a while they will look like new.

Although i have been know to put mine through the dishwasher:eek:, they looked great after that!!:D

Dishwasher is great. I once put my lovely Oster brushes in the washing machine - they came out fine, apart from the mane/tail brush - the pins got stuck in the holes of the drum, and the bobbly bits at the ends scraped off! It's a torture instrument now!

That is such a good idea! Now I can pollute my dishwasher with horse hairs along with numnahs clogging up the washing machine...

When mine needs cleaning I sling it in the rubbish bin and buy another body brush :( :o I only use a body brush, rubber curry and a metal curry.

The curries just get slung in a bucket of disinfectant.

All go in the washing machine in a horse ware wash bag, sling in some washing powder & disinfectant, job done.
