Best way to disinfect leather boots?

I accidentally spent a couple of minutes on a yard with strangles, and I figure I'm better being too paranoid than not paranoid enough so...

Will they be okay with just a quick paddle through some disinfectant, or should I be looking at something more intensive?

Virkon if you have any then rinse, condition and polish or they degrade!

I don't have any Virkon, and no way to get any before I'm heading to a different yard. Should standard Dettol-type disinfectant do okay?
