Best way to dye brown leather black?

I have finally found a saddle for my horse that works for us both but it is black!

I love my bridle which is brown. I bought it from English Bridles, it's not one generic size either, some parts are pony and some cob so I don't know how easy it is to sell it either. Think the noseband is cob but the rest is pony and the browband is cob!

Can I dye it black? If so, what is the best way?

I've done brown tack with black shoe dye. I strip it with methylated spirits first. What colour is the horse? It might leave marks on a light colour coat.

She is skewbald but her face is brown except her white stripe!

Don't do it; you're 90% certain to spoil your bridle. I'm a bridle marker and leather worker and it's not something I would do myself let alone recommend that someone with no experience tackles. I'd use the brown bridle and save up to replace it.

My horse currently has brown bridle and black saddle. The saddle was too good to pass up for being the wrong colour and the bridle is beautiful and expensive in dark havana brown. Once he is tacked up you really cant tell and we dont show so it doesnt matter.

No idea but if its any consolation I'm using a black saddle with a brown bridle, saddle was a steal and is super comfortable day to day however I have kept my brown one just incase we ever dabble in anything we have to look presentable for ?

Thank you all. I'd best not risk it then. I just feel like it's a waste not being able to sell it unless I sell it in parts but not sure how well that would work!

Thank you! It seems that this isn't so unusual after all. I don't think it really matters for me when I'm just a happy hacker, it just annoys me to look at ?
