I will be looking for an instructor to go over some dressage with me and horse, i don't necessarily want to aim too high at the mo but would like some knowledge from the ground. Whats the best way to find one bearing in mind i don't speak to too many horsey people at the mo and have no school, just a field to use come spring?

I would say that perhaps word of mouth would be best. If you don't speak to many horse people perhaps you could have a look for clinics in your area and go along and watch. You may find the instructor taking the clinic appeals to your way of riding or pop along to a local equestrian centre and ask or have a look at their notice board.

Word of mouth, BHS instructors register. Or, which may be more fun - perhaps join your local riding club. You will get lots of moral support from like minded peeps and get discounted lessons from their instructors. They will probably also run some low key comps to cut your teeth on too! :D
