My horse had an operation on his back heel and had a cast on for 4 weeks to allow it to heal. The cast has now been removed and the stitches are out, it has healed really well with only a small scab but I am struggleing to keep it clean. I was told to wash it out daily with salt water but he just freaks whenever I go near it. Had a few failed attempts but today he kicked me in the arm and it was bloody sore. He will let me pick it up and look at it but the minute I get water near him he freaks. Have tried tubbing but he will not stand just kicks it out of the way.
Any advice? It seems to be the water he objects to.
Thanks!

agree with intrasite gel idea - greeat stuff tho' difficult to get hold of without vet in my area. I've used dermagel to similiar affect recently.

YOu could also try a saline spray aerosol for cleaning. Can't remember the brand name of the one in my kit but got it from local tack shop. Sprays from a decent distance away and is as quiet as a fly spray.

Good luck
