Best way to progress when riding once a week?

I’ve been riding at riding schools for just over a year as an adult, though with considerable gaps due to moving house and things like that. My plan for this year is to alternate each week between lessons and hacking- does that seem a good balance? I would like to ride twice a week, but unfortunately that’s not affordable for me until I’m ready to share a horse with someone.

I encourage all my riders who can only afford one ride a week to come and watch as many lessons as they could.
It’s amazing how much you will learn from watching a lesson - try and watch a range, from beginner to advanced. My clients never mind being watched by someone who wants to learn, and I am always happy to answer questions or explain things to someone who is watching and keen to learn.

Good luck ?
