I need to get rid of my WH saddle that no longer fits my horse in order to buy another one. Someone has suggested ebay, but i'm a bit wary of having to post it and don't want to sell it for too little money. Local tack store does offer a service where they sell it for you for a fee but then it may get damaged in storage. Has anyone had experiance selling saddles through local papers etc, or any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Ive recently sold a saddle through ebay, everything went smoothly and i got a good price, i added extra cover for insurance of the parcel..
Also you could try horse and hound classified under £500 if the saddle is under that value x

i have sold 3 saddles on ebay for a good price and with no hassle also, i would sell on ebay personally

I've also sold a few saddles on ebay and would do so again. Insist on the buyer paying for postal insurance just in case it were to go missing in transit and make sure you get their payment cleared before you put it in the post.

If you're worried about actually getting the saddle in box to the post office to send off then don't - ParcelForce do a home collection service... you just book it, pay for it and they send the van round, pick it up and then put it in their delivery system.

I endorse what you say I have sold 2 saddles on ebay recently and the transactions were very smooth. I took the saddle to the post office and found out how much it weighed and how much the insurance was before I advertised it on ebay. It was £34.25 to post it with insurance of£600 value on it.

Have tried selling saddles advertised in local papers - never got any calls. Have also tried selling through local tack shops. Have found that the saddles just sit there for months on end and no Tack shop made any effort to sell them, even though they demand 20% commission of the sale price.

Have had much success with selling on eBay. You can put any reserve over £50, and the buyer pays the postage. I've sold several. Most got good price, one didn't, but by then I was so desperate to get rid, I accepted less than half what I'd paid for it 3 months before.

Packaging them is difficult, but sending Parcelforce is best as they collect! You can insure them and check delivery on website

I recently sent a saddle by courier for £12.50 + VAT. Just thought Id let peeps know as couriers can be cheaper than Parcel force! And Better!!

I sold my saddle on ebay, after having had it 6 months and having used it so it had a bit of wear, for about £20 less than I paid for it. I would definately sell again on ebay.
