Hi all,
I know there have been many threads about hay fever in horses before, but there is quite a bit of conflicting info and I'm confused! I think my horse is suffering from hay fever for the first time this year. We don't ride very often (just occasional happy hackers) but the last few times she was tossing her nose in the air which she never did before. She has a slightly runny nose and has coughed occasionally, but seems fine in herself in all other ways. I know lots of people and animals around here are really struggling with hay fever this year.
I read about giving horses antihistamines but then a lot of people and vets say they don't work, and you have to give huge doses to have an impact. I also read about honey and various supplements but I'm just a bit baffled. It seems silly to dose her up with all sorts of things but I'd like her to be comfortable. I guess I could get a nose net for hacking?
Any thoughts you have would be great! I have some chocolate chip cookies to share...
