I was wondering what people find is the best way to warn folk if their horse can be a bit excitable in the warm up?

My boy is generally good but can get VERY excited, especially when the warm up ring is busy so need to warn people they need to keep their distance if they are not to see of "bronco mode".

What has anyone else finds works well?

The majority of folks will be focussed on there own routine. If your horse is a kicker put a red ribbon in its tail.

Don't faff in the warm up, if the horse is working, going forward and is being occupied then it wont have time to think bronco.

Give everyone a flyer with a description of the excitement and where they should stand, and the code word that you will shout when the action happens. That'll give everyone time to set their camera phones to record video.

I'm being flippant of course. As long as you're not cannoning into people and avoiding the kickers for your boy's sake, I wouldn't worry about it.

Generally more like embarrassed!!

No need. My horse was bunched up like a spring, we walked 20m into the warm up and a large cob came past at canter. My horse buckaroo'ed on the spot and I flew off straight onto my back. Got up, swallowed the sand, got back on, did some more bucking then came a respectable 8th out of 24.

I would have been more embarrassed if I'd called it quits and not done the test (others called me insane but I'd payed so we were doing that test!)
I find what works best is if everyone working in follows school rules, uses common sense and are considerate of others. Then if someone does have a problem everyone else can keep going but also keep out of their way!
A red ribbon will be appreciated to!

Put a red ribbon on him if you're worried about people getting close. I wouldn't worry to much unless there is lots of kids in the warm up

I hate warm ups, people getting in your way constantly but it was great on my old mare who liked to spin, buck, sideways, rear etc. No one came near me once they'd seen her do it!

One of mine used to get very excited in warm ups.
I went to a pony club event, put a green & a red ribbon in my horse's tail, he tied himself in absolute knots. I had to laugh a v posh pony club mum who stood at the side of the warm up & bellowed
"HENRIETTA, STAY AWAY FROM THAT BAY! STAY. AWAY. FROM. THAT. BAY!!

Hopefully others in the warmup will be savvy enough to see that your horse is a bit 'lively'.

I turned up once on my horse who was being particularly electric and managed to get him trotting a 12m circle. My friend was standing at the side and heard people moaning about the 'dangerous' chestnut in the warm up. Fortunately my trainer - who is a very well respected list 1 judge - was warming up at the same time. He called across to me to say that I was doing very well and to just keep on doing what I was doing. Funnily enough all the grumbling stopped!
