Saturday - did another short solo hack on Chancer - we started by opening the gate with me onboard - another first. Then went up to the pub - past noisy barking dogs, bags, screaming kids - apart from slowing down a little on approach, he went past everything.

Went back straight past yard and then through side gate and this time did a circuit of the green - stopped for a quick munch then home - even when pheasant flew out almost under him he didn't flinch - I was so pleased with him that I sang a happy song riding along. Only 10 mins, but enough for the moment.

Took Cairo to a show on Sunday - local show as I was able to ride by attaching spare set of reins to his heavy horse bridle and then rode one handed in my inhand gear and a carrier bag with brushes in the other - you can only do things like this with a horse like Cairo.

We had a wonderful time and he won the odd coloureds - ok there were only two entered but so what

Cairo Winning

Here we are looking very happy - he was the only horse in the veterens (where he came 7th out of 11) to get a polo from the Judge. He knew she had them and begged until she gave him one - he is a crafty old bugger.

Showing Cairo

Actually dozed off riding him back - he is so comfortable and I had a late night and early morning.

Well done you - sounds like the two of you are doing brilliantly.

And Cairo looks amazing - with the help of some very expensive shampoo and conditioner

Mine arrived - very pleased. Smells delicious!

What a lovely lad and well done at the show.
Sounds like Chancer is doing well too. You don't fancy having Alee for a while and teaching her to hack out for me do you, having a problem with no sane horses to hack with at our yard!!

I have a problem getting people to hack out with so have been doing tiny short hacks along places he has been long reined and led off Cairo by ourselves - each time I am going a tiny bit further then doing a large circle and returning. I am very lucky in that he has been so far very good. Have had a few back steps and one tiny sideways spook but nothing more than that - he is a credit to his breed.

Once he is established, will go a little further and along places he has not been - but all in good time. Think the past year taking him out led from Cairo has really helped him get his confidence. However, the first time we do combines etc ridden, I will go out with Cairo though being led he did even flinch.

Yes it does smell good enough to eat.

Cairo was washed with tresume deep cleansing shampoo mixed with equine blue.

Legs were done with grannies soapflakes and equine blue. Then given a coat of equimins whitener.

Then sprayed with Alva gleam, which I then rub well into the coat by hand. His mane and tail brushed out with Equss survivor detangler.

On the day, sprayed with Alva Dazzle and rubbed over to get the shine up. Mane and tail then had a spray with Supreme Sparkle.

I was filthy and soaked but he turned from a very dirty horse into what you see.

Yes - I have lots to choose from, but these are my favs - for once my eyes are open and I am smiling - normally my eyes are close or my gob wide open as I am telling them to move it.
