I was wondering which lines of Welsh Cobs strike you as being the best jumpers around? I've just come home from a show and was impressed with a Cob that I hadn't seen in years but he has won just about anything over years and shown internationally as well. Any hints as to which lines (not just looking for prefixes I know most of them by reputation or from horses I've seen) but to look out for specific names. Who are the best Section D jumpers of all times in your opinion?

There's a cracking jumping D currently come back up for sale again - Dark Emperor? Not sure what his lines are but might be worth a look at him?

I had seen The Dark Emperor and he is stunning but his breeding is nowhere to be found on the internet at least I have gloriously failed. That's the kind of jump I'm talking about. It would be so very helpful to know those ponies' breedings...
This is one that was bred over here in Germany who I really like. He doesn't jump bad either. This one is by Casnewydd Barti Ddu (the one with the unclarified ID I believe?) Don't recall the full story but I know there was something with Horeb Euros not being his sire or some such thing.
Anyway the damline on this boy is Geler Sambo. Love his style.

I know of the owner, so could point you in her direction if you're interested?

I personally wouldn't touch him with a bargepole, but there's no denying he's an immense jumper!

ETA - sorry. Didn't realise he'd changed hands yet again!

Do you mean DE? If so, why?

Wolf's grandsire (Tireinon Roger) was exported to Norway. They're big into their Welshies over there, and have a lot of them performance graded. So it might be worth looking at which lines have done well at gradings.

Nb Google translate said that one of Wolf's aunts scored '8.8 for leaps' which still makes me titter.

This helps :) In the B's one that has consistently brought super jumpers over here was Tetworth Crimson Lake (oversize Sec. B sold to Holland and then to Germany) as well as his son Churchill. Re. The Dark Emperor, I think it is pretty obvious that he's not a ride for everybody. But most intl. quality jumpers aren't. I do believe it takes a certain amount of 'poison' to be able to succeed against the clock at this level. But there are some that throw scope and manner and still have easy going brains. That's the kind I'm looking for.
I also know from my WB breeding background there are certain lines that will reliably kill the jump in just one or two generations. Might not be a good idea to point those out in public but if you know of any non-jumpers in the Welsh breeds pls feel free to PM me. Also lines that tend to throw bad personalities. Not looking for line-bashing here but you've got to start somewhere. In sporthorse-breeding it's a lot easier to access this kind of information e.g. you find the breed values for conformation, dressage and jumping ability everywhere on line as well as show records. Masses of Data. There is nothing comparable to this in the Welsh-breeds so that's why the research :)
