Can anyone recommend a wheel clamp that is high security, and is easy to fit to a trailer wheel? Perhaps it's just me, but I find some of them really hard to get on the wheel without damaging my fingers!!

I cannot remember who makes them but I had this bar which fitted on to special wheel nuts. It was really good because it was about 2 feet long which makes it impossible to drive away the trailer on a hard surface (I did do it across a field and we made very big holes in the field. But that's another story!). I found that this was much easier than a clamp which I agree can be fiddly - and also the older ones are not that secure as tyres can be deflated and the clamp removed on some of them!!

I use an SAS trailer clamp. They fit the new style Ifor wheel arches which have very narrow clearances (I tried a triangle style one first and it would not fit between the tyre and the mud guard).

I have a Bulldog Clamp that when new cost about £99 (seven years ago) it complies with all the insurance regulations and is relatively easy to fit - it comes apart into three pieces and fits fine - I don't even have to struggle with it.

I'd second the Bulldog QD wheel clamps - cost about £100 but it is effective and easy to fit takes 5 min max.

Don't make the mistake I did though - bought the Ifor Williams specific size and then changed my trailer to an Equitrek & now need a new one! I will be buying the same design and make though.

Also fit to rear wheel - or so the trailer man told me.

Thanks - just had a look at them and they look really easy to fit. Can anyone recommend a good insurance company for trailers please? :)

Bulldog wheel and hitch clamps, NFU insurance.

NFU told me that they would insure me, but I would have to take out a second policy (car, house, etc.) within the year or they would cancel it when it came up for renewal. Two fingers up to them!
