I am wanting to switch my horse over to wood pellet bedding but he is very wet and messy. What is the best bedding brand for wood pellets for my situation ?

I’ve used white horse energy platinum plus for many years and have found them super absorbent. I’ve tried cheaper ones but always gone back to White horse as they seem a lot better. I also prefer the lighter colour over others as it makes for a much nicer looking bed.
If you haven’t used them before you are welcome to use my referral code which will get you 5% off your order. RicJoa23361
They also do a cheaper unbranded version but I have heard that these can become a little dusty in the summer when dry. I haven’t tried these ones as I’ve been happy with platinum plus.

I didn't get on with a pure pellet bed, however pellets underneath something like Aubiose or Softchip are fab for a wet and messy horse. Aubiose seems expensive but I put max 1 bale a week in in the middle of winter, and top up the base with half a bag of pellets every few weeks.

Wood pellets are good to use but make sure you don't buy the cheapest they won't absorb the urine properly. Also don't get taken in by buying them cheaper if you only pay 5% VAT this is against the law and those selling wood pellets for horse bedding are liable for prosecution if and when caught.

I’m pretty certain it would be the purchaser that would be classed as breaking the law if they opt for the 5% VAT. A lot of websites have a disclaimer stating that the purchaser must ensure they select the correct VAT rate.

Yes you are correct that is the case, i have been in a country store when someone was buying a pallet of wood pellets and the shop keeper said to the customer "you are buying these for your wood burner" (with a wink indicating they would get them cheaper with the 5% VAT) The store owners know what they should be doing the purchaser may not be aware.

White Horse unbranded IMO are currently the best. White Horse Platinum Plus used to be good, but they've gone darker and less absorbent over the years. The unbranded version is what the platinum plus used to be like.

I’m also using the unbranded white horse pellets which are light coloured. Quite sandy in texture but seems absorbent. Horse seems happy to lie down

Update, did my first muck out of wet. Only 1/2 big barrow after 2 weeks of being in during day & to be honest it wasn’t super wet so could have gone longer I think. Didn’t put anymore in yet as bed has expanded since laid. Was heavy to put on muck heap though. Am in two minds if i like or not. Going to try on my other horse who pees in one spot
